Nothing new

I thought I would write something, just so you know I haven't given up. But, wow, I have nothing new to report. I guess I've hit another brick wall :-(

That's okay, I will hit pay dirt again one day.

The Wards

My Dad

I really wish my dad shared more about his family. Unfortunately, he was very closed mouth about them. He was born in Mississippi and was an only child. However, I can't imagine that he didn't have a bunch of other relatives there. All I know is he had a cousin named Robert (we actually knew him) that lived in Detroit. Luckily, my mom had some information, so I at least know his parents (my grandparents) names: Chatman (or Chapman) Myers and Rosa Ward. This is where I hit the proverbial brick wall. I can't seem to get any information on either of them (parents, siblings, anything). Now, when my dad's cousin, Robert passed away, my dad and I took the train to Detroit to make funeral arrangements. There I came across photos that I brought home with me. The photos are somewhat marked with names and indicates that they are various Ward relatives. You would think, armed with these names, that I would be able to locate something about them. But, nooooooo, nothing. I'll keep plugging away, something will surface eventually. I have faith!

Going slow

Nothing new on the genealogy search. However, I'm thinking about doing a DNA test. My recently found cousin is doing hers. I'm curious what it will uncover...am I of African decent or Indian or neither...hmmmmmm...I wonder.

A friend of mine said it will show that we are all cousins. I like that!

I'm so bad at this

I am so bad at this. I envy those that consistently write on their blog. However, I do have some exciting news. Since I started this blog, I have managed to track down relatives I didn't know existed and/or were alive. During a conversation with my mom, she remembered that her dad had 2 sisters (Aunt Dorothy Pope and Aunt Susie Smith). She also remember that Aunt Dorothy had a daughter named Ida Mae and that Aunt Susie had a daughter named Marva Faye. Well, while dabbling in Ancestry.com (it seems something new comes up every so often, even if I enter the exact same information I entered previously) I stumbled acrossed another family tree that was sharing the same ancestors I had. Coincidence? I think not? So, using the leads that were available in that tree (a very important lead I might add...that there were living relatives), I started searching for these living relatives. I tried google without much success, so I tried Facebook. I sent messages to everyone that fit my criteria and low and behold, someone replied that was indeed related. It's been amazing. I have talked with 3 cousins (2 in Arkansas and 1 in Tennessee). It has been wonderful getting acquainted with these new relatives.

Life is good!

Okay, I'm going to try really hard to right more frequently.
